Lovely Antigua....O o O
Locals are for the most part nice. There is a lot of so called "Expatriates". I see why so many people has fallen in love with this place. Picture a nice, decent size oddly shaped square. Add a dash of honey (hot locals and travelers alike), sprinkle a little lightning bolt (fun nightlife/bars/clubs/coffee spots), throw in a handful of culture and originality and you have got Antigua!
The surroundings is fairly safe. Just exercise basic common sense and you will do just fine. The town is lazy in nature. Everything closes early. Antigua is considered expensive compared to neighboring countries.
Businesses have expensive leases here. There are hordes of travel agencies. If you paid more than $5 to go to Lago De Atitlan, you paid too much. If you paid more than $10 to go to Copan, you paid too much. Choose "Universal Agency"..They seem to be the one offering the best price (I'm in no way affiliated). Most locals live in neighboring townships because Antigua is costly as far as Real Estate. Properties here are very close to the U.S prices.
No Filipino time here. That means if the bus is picking you up at 7:30.....you better be ready by 7:15.....
No laggers!
Goodbye Antigua for now.....I will be back in the near future to perfect my Spanish and finish the remainder trek for Central America.....
