The Plönlein (crossroads) of Rothenburg ob der Tauber
The first stop of our journey was the beautiful medieval village of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a village along the the Romantic Route (Romantische Straße). This is a famous imaginary itinerary about 370 Km long, from Füssen, at the feet of the Alps in the Bavarian castles area, as far as the town of Würzburg. The route is full of enchanting medieval villages, real jewels of art and culture, such as Donauwörth, Dinkelsbühl e Feuchtwangen, protected by their stonewalls. The most beautiful of this walled town is certainly Rothenburg, with its Plönlein (crossroads looking a group of old spectacular houses) and Markplatz, the picturesque central square where you can meet a merry musicians group in their medieval costumes, as happens to us. The walking on the old walls of the village, with its beautiful views on the river Tauber, is another must.
