We get there and Mel and Tracy are tipsy so I go up the bouncer and ask to speak to the manager, who was supposed to have reserved an area big enough for 20 people.
Carole and her boyfriend Craig show up early! They probably left early due to them completely missing the last meetup due to getting lost. We are standing outside and I am giving Fat White Buddha the evil eye.
So that's the boring stuff but you know what? Travbuddies are the best. There was some major skillz going on tonight with table-changing, talking up servers so they wouldn't be pissed at our table-changing and grabbing new tables for later-arriving guests, so eventually we were all in the same area, slowly but surely. And this is not to mention the other types of skillz going on tonight like conga-line dancing, general partying/dancing and the insane self-portrait camera-centering (yes Nhi and Craig I'm talking about you two).
It was SO good to see some familiar faces I haven't seen in a while. Seeing Carole, Belinda, Nancy and Warren again made me SO HAPPY even though Warren didn't end up coming to the Tavern. Nancy shares stories about copping a feel on Julian McMahon at Jones.
Mel awarded the "most further Travbuddy award" to Sebastian, who came all the way from somewhere in Germany.. Koln I think? What a wonderful, self-possessed kid he is. He handled being surrounded by loud, raucous women all night with such ease and grace. Sebastian I hope you come back to visit soon =)
All in all, it was such a freaking fun night. I think the mood definitely changed when Alice brought out her blueberry and raspberry topped mousse cake and a box of spoons.
Further bonding occured on the dance floor when this pretty good live rock band came out in the corner of the restaurant! Actually it wasn't really a rock band it was two guys on electric guitars but they were pretty awesome and played good rock music. At some point I was a conga line where ppl looked like they were having SO much fun that random customers in the restaurant joined in (not new as we all know by now). And we all got together for group shots as our AWESOME waitress took group shots with each of our cameras.
The bill came out and with Alice on one side with her cell phone calculator and Katherine on the other side providing help, it was probably one of the fastest bill-settlings for almost 30 people in Travbuddy history. Went off without a hitch! And I've dubbed Kathering my co-accountant for TB meetups. She is freaking fabulous. And her friend Chuck is such a sweetheart!
I snuck out early because 1) I'm a poophead and 2) The fire marshalls came in AGAIN (the same ones from last night at the Shore!) and 3) I hate goodbyes. With school starting again and my 3rd decade of life speeding onto the horizon, I think this will be my last TB meetup, at least for a while. This addiction is going to be hard to quit because I've met some of the coolest, most quality people in my life. I love you all and I know I'll see you around. =)
