RJ causing a ruckus
Holy cow. So my oil light has been going off since the LA TB meet, and I've been too busy to take it into a mechanic, and before you knew it, I had to drive to San Diego! So I figured I was low on oil and called the dealership to find out what kind of engine oil it took. They scared me by telling me I might have an engine leak but even that wasn't going to stop me from visiting RJ in SD!

So I bought some of stuff at the 76 gas station and then tried to just top it off in the morning before heading to San Diego. Yeah that turned into a little fiasco, as apparently I didn't know where to put the damn oil into! Even Tracy's brother was like "um.. I'm not sure!" So we drove down sunset and the nice pinoy boys at EZ Lube "topped off" (read they added 2 entire bottles of 5/30 oil to my car) for FREE.

Soooo nice! Apparently I was OUT of engine oil! I don't get it.. there was some brown stuff in the dipstick thingy, but they said I had NO OIL left. So after this was all taken care of, the light shut off and I felt like I could do ANYTHING because... I HAVE OIL!

Tracy also had a really bad morning, as her bathroom was being remodeled and she grabbed the wrong AOSEPT bottle to rinse off her contacts and put it in her eye. The disinfecting solution is basically hydrogen peroxide!! And she put it in her EYE!! Girlfriend has some chutzpah to just rinse that shit out, don her glasses and say "let's go!" If I had burned my cornea like that, I'd be like "excuse me today as I languor at home and take care of my eyeball please.." What a trooper Tracy is!

So we left an hour later than the already rescheduled hour later time we had planned on and the drive took 3.
RJ and his crew!
5 hours! I couldn't even use the cruise control due to the stop and go traffic. Gripping the steering wheel furiously I muttered to myself "This will ALL be worth it when we see RJ!" I've seen ALL my LV TB peeps since the LV meet EXCEPT for RJ. So this insane drive was worth it, even if it was only to see him for like 4 hours!

We were supposed to go to Pacific Beach for lunch since they have some awesome Indian food places there, but were running so late we basically missed lunch. So instead we headed straight for Black Beach but somehow wound up at Del Mar beach, which was literally 2 miles from where my parents' old home in San Diego was.
Don't ask..
What a trip! I remember seeing this beach when I was 17 - fresh from NYC and being like "uh.. it's kinda salty and sunny out here, but mostly I'm really bored!" Now seeing it again after being in Cali for 10 years.. I thought "DAMN this is a NICE beach!" I fought tooth and nail to maintain my metropolitan identity, but ultimately it is just GOOD for you to explore new things, appreciate different environments, and I think now that I've finally let my guard down, the universe is allowing me to move on after being miserable here for so many years.

Tracy and I spent probably 20 minutes on the beach, as RJ's band of merry friends had hiked for probably an hour prior to our arrival. They were starving and so we headed in the direction of Extraordinary Desserts in downtown San Diego. We figured we would find a restaurant nearby and then finish off with dessert at this much-recommended place.

Little did we realize how similar downtown San Diego is to downtown Los Angeles. Everything is freaking closed on the weekends! We couldn't find a single damned thing to eat and wandered around near the train tracks. We knew we were kinda close to the infamous gaslamp district but weren't sure if it was walkable. Many people were famished and unable to go much further, so I ended up asking this dude hanging off his balcony eating beef jerky if there was a good restaurant close by. He directed us back where we came from - Little Italy and we finally ended up at this awful Italian-diner place with just miserable food. What a waste of a meal! Full and unsatisfied, we left for Extraordinary Desserts and had a much better time here, taking pictures, trying out fabulous desserts and having a good old time =)

It's interesting to watch the progression of pictures being taken.

RJs friends are mostly non-TB related and so they thought Tracy, RJ and I were crazy for our shenanigans and picture taking madness. In the first few pictures of us all on the beach, you can see they are hesitant and slowly inching away from the cameras not knowing what was going on. By the end of the night at Extraordinary desserts, we had so much fun that all the cameras came out, auto timers were fully employed and many pictures of us racing back to our spots enthusiastically to take group shots were caught! Full TB conversion - COMPLETE! I really really enjoyed meeting RJ's friends (who are all chinese btw! Whereas all my TB/LA friends are Philippino!) =D hahahaa!
