As Joy would say - Holy Frijoles!!
Last night just before midnight, I get a call from Tracy telling me we're having a house party at Joy's house! We're celebrating the last day we'll see George. I wasn't sure if Eric and Lisa were back from Japan yet, but I msged as many ppl in LA as I could before passing out! Only Sheila responded affirmatively as everyone else had plans at the last minute! The next morning, off we went after a brief stop in Hollywood, and I trailed Tracy all the way to Monrovia!
What a FUN NIGHT! One of those nights again - haven't packed for Rome, haven't done taxes, and I leave oh.
But it was all worth it because the houseparty at the new West Coast TB headquarters (aka Joy's house) was a freaking BLAST! 105 degrees and parked in front of the hot BBQ with a ciggie dangling from my mouth and a splash of wine cooler in a cup of sprite and Jen was hot, a bit tipsy and very very happy.
Tonight's attendees were Joy, George, Vinnie Alice, Sheila, Tracy and I. I think we had a 7 course meal tonight, mediterranean themed and Alice whipped up a few AMAZING dishes AGAIN. I would not want to live in Alice's neighborhood. I would gain 20 more pounds because her food is SO freaking delicious!! Joy taught us how to make mediterranean salad and tzaziki!
Tracy brought an entire office box of alcohol!! I stopped by Beard Papas to get a dozen different cream puffs.
At the end of the night it was time to award the "Most Further Travbuddy" award. Don't ask me about the grammar - it's Mel's invention and I'm almost sure there's a story behind it. I had skillfully distracted George while Tracy went to purchase the prize in Hollywood this morning - thank you Tracy!! George seemed surprisingly excited about putting on a pink shirt and everyone gathered round to take pictures. I unfortunately happened to be the one next to him when everyone wanted to shoot the back of the shirt. That somehow trapped me into holding the same "show my butt" pose as George was sporting. Baaahh!!
We were sent home with leftovers and hugs and kisses. It was what a wonderful Sunday, a wonderful headquarters and a wonderful hostess =)
I am happy to have attended in George's wonderful send off and been present at the establishment of our official West Coast Travbuddy HQ! Woohoo!!
GETTING TO KNOW GEORGE, aka JORGE, aka 6'7"
It has been such a pleasure getting to know George!!! He's incredibly unique, and I'm not talking about just height! He's incredibly sweet, sincere and is not afraid to share about himself and what he loves.
Here's my take on George. I think George wants to experience all the pleasures in life, but pleasure for him is that very zen place while he's surfing or perhaps sitting in a hammock writing (I have no evidence that he has a hammock, but I can definitely imagine it). His ability to live as an expat and navigate the day to day life in Mexico (as opposed to foreign service or a multinational where they take care of all the logistics and paperwork) is really admirable and shows a true adaptability to the world around him.
I love the fact that he likes Beard Papas - there is something particularly great and sensitive about men who really enjoy sweets.
