Afetr a very smooth pick up at the airport we got dropped off at our hotel - New Otani. First impressions of Singapore are that it is very clean, very warm and very green!! Hotel seems really quite posh, really nice place and really nice room with great views of the city. After 16 hours on the plane (with all the delays) we were pretty tired so had a kip for a few hours until mid afternoon and then went to explore Singapore. Did a very touristy thing and headed straight for Raffles. This was to be the first realisation of how expensive S/P is (and we come from England!!!). Had two singapore slings and two beers and it came to $560 (about £25)!!!! After this we found some place to eat and sat outside and watched the locals pass by. It seems to have a great atmosphere at night. Is suppose because its so hot during the day that people wait til later when its much cooler to wander about the city. After this we headed back to the area around our hotel - Clarke Quay. This is quite a cool area in the city with rows of bars and cafes - after one drink we couldn't stay awake any longer so headed back to the hotel.
