Cool Bananas was the best hostel we have stayed in so far. It was sop chilled out and the little town we stayed in was almost horizontal! There are two little towns (or I suppose they were really villages) one called 1770 and one called Agnes Water. They jsut come under the same heading as they are so small, but they are very beautiful. It was so nice to chill out after our mission down the east coast. By day we walked along the beaches and collected shells. The first night we were picked up in a little red jeep and taken to see the sunset at the 1770 lighthouse and then onto a local bar. We even managed to nearly run over a very big snake which we were told was harmless! Then onto a newly refurbished pub where we were looked after so well and given very lovely and cheap food. The second night we chilled out in hammocks by the fire which was kept going till midnight.
We felt like we had our own personal paradise, but you could tell that more and more people were discovering this slice of the east coast. There was development going on, and on the plane to New Zealand it was even in the inflight magazine. Its not going to be the same sleepy town for long so go while you still can especially when the surf is good.
