We arrived into Christchurch safe and sound apart from Sam whose flight was cancelled and then he was diverted to Auckland- not a good start. We had left James in Sydeny to see his family and we had met Sam who was going to do New Zealand with the girls.
We picked up the hire car, which to our amazement wasn't the tiniest one and we could fit our backpacks in. We then had fun and games trying to negoigiate our way round Christchurch with a very small scale map. After going round in circles for a while we managed to find, Una's ( the lady we met in Namibia) daughter's house and we shown in by her very friendly Japenese house mate. We dumped our bags, had a cup of tea and then it was back to the airport to pick up Sam. We had a better map by then so it only took us half an hour to get there. Japenese curry and pancakes greated us for tea, which were lovely and we then debated our plans till we fell asleep.
The next day we had a bit of a lie in, got our provisions for the big trip ( including extra clothes, its colder than the Uk at the moment in NZ) and then headed aong the coast to a town called Akaora which we had been recommended to go to. We drove through Christchurch first, which looked so beautiful in the sun with the Autumn colours of the leaves. It looks a lot like Oxford or Cambridge with the river and the punts and we all decided that we could live here.
