You know you're there
Kwintsheul is a very small village in the municipality 'Westland'. Only 3500 souls live in Kwintsheul. The village is situated near the stream 'Lange Watering' which runs from The Hague to 't Woudt.

Kwintsheuls main source of income is generated by the greenhouses. Together with the surrounding villages, Kwintsheul belongs to the largests of greenhouse concentrations in The Netherlands. A lot of vegetables and flowers are grown here. The vegetables mostly stay in the area for consumption, the flowers are mostly exported. The greenhouses are responsible for most of the lightpolution in the area surrounding The Hague. To maximize crop yield, lights are switched on every night.  This has a negative affect on the wildlife.

With the warmth and the light, they don't know when it is night anymore. Also, the lights beaming up in the nightsky prevent you from seeing any stars. Though I have to admit, the orange glow makes the sky look like it is on fire. Quite spectacular. Not so long ago, the Dutch gouvernment passed a law which stated that the growers needed to prevent this lightpolution and they were only allowed a certain amount of light emission. A type of aluminium foil is now used to prevent warmth and light 'leaking'out of the greenhouses.

In Kwintsheul one can find only a few attractions; the Andreaschurch and a couple of old farmhouses. There is hardly any nightlife in Kwintsheul. That is no problem for the inhabitants as The Hague is only a few minutes away.

No nightlife, perhaps...but apparently much night light!
