The Beginning
December 6, 2007
So this is the first entry of my travel journal for my trip to South America, beginning with a flight to Panama City, Panama. As the plane approached the country from the Atlantic side I could see hillsides covered by seemingly impenetrable jungle canopy with streams slicing in between. This slowly gave way to houses dotting the hills in increasing density until the edges of Panama City finally came into view. The airport in Panama City is 16 miles from the city, a long 20-30min cab ride from the city center that travels along the coastline. The city itself has so far seemed not so impressive, rather loud and traffic clogged with lots of incessant honking and buses spewing bad air. Via España the road near which I´m staying is a busy street with lots of stores up and down the street. Not much time to explore today due to the long plane ride and early start this morning. That will have to wait until tomorrow.
