Myrtle Beach 2007

Myrtle Beach Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

When one has traveled the world places that are familiar tend to become unappealing. I thought Myrtle Beach, a small beachtown in South Carolina, had become like that to me. But, sometimes we travelers need an escape from the exciting locations, some quiet time to reflect on our good fortune, and most importantly a little peace...

It is Thanksgiving and what I am thankful for this year is...

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

...Travbuddy! I dedicate this blog to the website and to all of my marvelous Travbuddies. You have enriched my life in countless ways and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for that. I joined Travbuddy about 3 years ago after a memorable trip to Argentina. A friend introduced me to the website and suggested that I begin to document my travels on here, in order for my friends and family to follow them more easily. Little did I know that this community would become my friends and some of you even like my family!

I wish that I had more time to spend on this website; browsing through all of your beautiful blogs that so eloquently capture your grand adventures around this world and which offer the most helpful information. I wish you a lifetime of safe and unforgettable journeys.

My brother and I on Thanksgiving! I am the luckiest sister in the world.

The city that this blog is centered around is Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I have been vacationing there almost my entire life, as my family is not big on change. Once they have found a special spot, they like to keep returning to it, rather than seeking out another one. I am quite different in this regard, as I am insatiably curious and want to visit everywhere. However, I am one for compromise and if seeing my family means constantly returning to Myrtle Beach than so be it. I am content to see the rest of the world without them (though, recently my brother has shown signs of having caught the travel bug, let us keep our fingers crossed).

The feeling of having sand between my toes while walking along the beach is a feeling that I will never tire of.

Sunset on the beach.
Although, Myrtle Beach no longer intrigues me, I must admit that for such a small city it has a lot to offer. Plus, I know that during the winter months it is deserted; affording me much needed solitude from the mass of people in New York City.

During my walks, sometimes with my family and sometimes alone, I recalled all of the memories that I had created in Myrtle Beach mostly as a teenager; I spent numerous hours floating in the ocean, overdosing on coconut tanning oil, flirting with cute lifeguards, shopping at Broadway at the Beach, getting caught skinny dipping at 2AM by the police, watching my brother learn how to walk on the sand, setting fireworks off to celebrate both the 4th of July and New Year’s Eve, hearing various bands play at The House of Blues, and eating too much tofu-rky at Thanksgiving. I could reminisce forever, but those are some of the highlights. I would not trade these memories for having had the opportunity to travel anywhere else.

The majority of pictures in this blog are a collection of shots taken during the sunset on Thanksgiving day from the balcony of our condo. I love the way the sun cast its shadow on the ocean water, as well as the gorgeous range of colors that illuminated the sky.
