Needed to take a breather so decided to go visit my friend in Houston, Texas

Through the looking glass

In the plane, on my way to Houston, TX

I leaned forward in the cold cold seat, while the air pressure vibrated against my skin.  I looked out the tiny airplane window, like a looking glass and I saw the sky on fire.  A Thunderstorm in the distance illuminating it from horizon to horizon.  I saw the river of grass burning. Tiny trails like snakes of ember on the sea of black below me.  The dark veil of night painted by pirouetting lighting blots.  The plane shifted and revealed the clear sky and a million pin prick stars talking in glimmers and light.  The city shined in the distance like a million jewels covered in clouds, a chiffon blanket of haze.  The universe unfolded before me.  I sat back and enjoyed the ride.

Houston: Friends, Fun & Football?

I've been having a tough break for the last 6 months or so and everything that could go wrong pretty much did and my friends were beginning to become a little concerned about me.

So when my friend, Marco invited me to go for a visit I decided taking a breather from the wonderful city I love would a wise choice.

He booked a flight leaving Thursday and coming back on Sunday … just a weekend breather and quick visit.
That night we hit the bars and ended up at a place called Kobain’s (Yes, as in Kurt Cobain, Nirvana front man).  The place had an oakie feel to it, if oak could be a feeling, like we should be sitting back on the deeply colored leather coaches and smoking cigars (which I do partake in occasionally, although not as socially acceptable since I am a girl!) We ended up chatting up some of the customers and finding out people in Houston are a lot nicer than we are used to … being from Miami.

The next day he left me on my own to explore with only a GPS and his FJ, yes he copied me but he won’t admit it, to find my way.

The following day, I was informed we would be heading to a Tavern and catching the LSU game and being that I am easy going I didn’t mind or care what we were doing.  I expected to be a little bored but knew I could find someone to chat with, especially after a couple of beers, so we were off.

The place was two stories and I didn’t understand, until later, why we were to keep to the LSU floor and the other team to their floor.

When the game started the entire place roared and cheered with anticipation and as the team fight song began everyone jumped up and started singing and make hand jesters.

My friend took the time to explain what was going on and I finally understood what the big deal was about Football!

Go LSU!

;)
