The Açores are 9 little pearls in the Atlantic Ocean. I travelled to Faial, Pico, São Jorge and São Miguel. These Portuguese islands, except the last one, aren’t commercialist. No McDonalds etc. just nature, great wine, ‘smelly’ cheese and very sweet pineapples. It is like discovering a new world. Not a lot of people travel to these remote islands.

Horta is a lively place where you find a lot of sailers. Sometimes the Açores are for them the first time they see land after sailing for days / weeks. The sailers make colourful paintings in the harbour. Peter Café Sport is a very famous café, which is a nice place to go out for a drink in the evening.

Swimming with dolphins; I was looking foward to do that. I was naïve. Why would wild dolphins swim with people? Far away from the coast we find a group of dolphins. As quick as we could we jumpt in the ocean. But the dolphins were swimming fast away. Not once we had direct contact.

These Island would be a lovely place to visit.
If you really want to swim with dolphins, you can do so in New Zealand, at Kaikoura and in other seaside towns, also swim with seals if you wish, they are quite freindly I beleive, one day I shall do so. Up til now I have only had contact with dolphins while in small boats, dancing around the boat and playing games.
