I just loved the fact it was in Portuguese.
As we were enjoying our last breakfast at Pousada Evelina I heard two loud 'thuds' hitting the glass. Jody was sitting across from me facing the windows and had seen two doves hit the window at full speed. I got up and rushed over to the open window to take a look. There it was.... Poor little thing had obviously broken it's neck. R.I.P. my little feathered friend. *sniff-sniff* There was no sign of the other one.
After breakfast we were off to the airport. I'll be heading home in a few hours, but the girls still have a couple more days to go. They'll be staying on the Ipanema side this time.
Back in Rio the girls checked into thier hotel and then we hit the shops for some more shopping. Could not find one decent souvenire shop, so we walked back down to the Copacabana side. Of course we stopped and got some caipirinha's along the way. LOL! We came across the "flea market". Souvenire shopping.... DONE!
After all that walking and shopping there was no way we were walking back, so we caught a cab. The bell hop suggested a restaurant around the corner from the hotel called "Gula Gula". It was the BEST meal I had in Brazil. Perfect ending to a great vacation.
We were done with dinner about 11pm and I still had about an hour to go before I was off to the restaurant.
At midnight said my good-byes to the girls and I was off to the airport for the long flight home.
Gula-Gula in Ipanema is an excellent choice (gula means gluttony in Portuguese) if you're looking for fine dinning in a relaxed atmosphere. Apparently it's a favourite restaurant among neighborhood residents.
They offer an open-air patio, with makes it a fine spot to indulge while watching people mingling on the street.
The food is stupendous! The steak is so tender and juicy you can cut it with a butter knife. Some dishes are offered with your choice of sauce/topping for the meat. The mashed potatos were to die for! None of us left one morsal on our plates!
