Day 2 - Rio Baby!
November 24, 2007
We just landed in Sao Paulo. I am soooo tired of flying, but we have one more short flight to Rio. I need a shower and some sleep!
Finally! Rio Baby!! We had to take two Taxi's. It was Jason & Jody in one and Michelle, Teresa and myself in the other. Our Taxi driver had a DVD monitor on his dash and was playing American music videos. Pretty entertaining. We drove through a bad area of Brazil. Made the projects look like club med. I think we took the 'scenic' route to the hotel (Plaza Copacabana). By the time we got there Jason and Jody had already checked in and were waiting for us.
We checked in, showered and met down in the lobby. Had our first meal in Brazil at Espuma's. I don't recommend it! Service was slow and the food wasn't good. One of the side dishes was "Farofa". Seems to be a popular Brazilian side dish. Why... I don't know?! Reminded me of the grit birds use to help grind thier food. Ordered my first Caipirinha. (They're similar to a Mojito, but w/o the mint leaves.) They were so strong we had to add sugar to them. I had two! Haha!
We stopped at one of the many stands along the beach for some more caipirinha's before heading back to the hotel. They were MUCH better than the ones we got at Espuma's. A drunk guy came up and started serenading us with american songs in his bad Brazilian accent. Pretty funny!
We talked about going out to a club, but none of us made it. We all ended up crashing out.

Espuma's is one of the little restaurants located along Copacabana Beach. Service was EXTREMELY slow. They took forever to take our orders and to get the food out, in spite of it being late in the day and having hardly any other patrons.
Food was nothing to write home about. The steak was as tough as shoe leather. The drinks however were extremely strong. (A fair trade I suppose for the bad food. LOL!) Still... we ordered our first Brazlian caipirinha's and they were not only strong, but a little too tart. We had to add sugar them.
