ok
We spent all day on the 30th travelling from Philly to Houston to Lima. Turns out I CAN"T sleep on planes after all. Felt like the living dead when we wound up at Chavez Airport in Lima. Hung out in their food court for a long time but the cleaning crew asked us to move when we were trying to sleep. just took shifts sleeping next to our luggage while the other guys roamed the airport (getting food, using the internet lab etc.). finally it got to be like 5 and we were allowed to check in with TACA. The flight to Cusco was almost entirely tourists. They had an interesting way of organizing the boarding process. Like most airlines, they called people with tickets on the back of the plane first. However, we didn't get right on the plane. instead they just piled EVERYONE on some busses and whisked us over to plane, making the organized boarding process a complete waste.
i was the last one on the shuttle, so there were no seats left. i was also a sweaty mess by then. out of common courtesy, i resisted the urge to steady myself on the overhead bars since the place would smell a lot worse with my arms in the air.anyway, the actual TACA flight was awesome. we someone got the seats right behind first class, which were basically first class themselves (tons of leg room). the stewardess was hot and didn't speak much english. she asked if i spoke english and if i could do her a favor, then handed me a card in spanish. without looking at it, i asked if she wanted me to translate it. just one of many misunderstandings to come caused by my public school quality public school education.
