Fort Collins, Colorado

The plan: a 3 week car trip covering as many sites as we can fit. About 4,500 miles, and include California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, South Dakota, Wyoming and back again. Many National Parks. It ended up over 5,200 miles, 1,800 pictures.

Fort Collins, Colorado

01 - North of Denver the land was flat and the air was bad.

Farther north and east.

Today was really just a driving day. About three hundred miles from Grand Junction to Fort Collins, Colorado.  We did get to go through a very famous area called Glenwood Springs, where they built a new highway through a very narrow canyon, and did it without destroying any mature trees.  It also included a section where we went from under 6,000 feet elevation to nearly 11,000 feet.  My poor little Toyota Prius’ four cylinder engine and electric motor had a very hard time pulling that grade.   But even with the heavy mountain grades we still got 48 mpg on the fill-up this evening.

We got in rather early so we had a chance to take in a Quilt Show before going to dinner.

Tonight we had an excellent steak dinner at a Texas Roadhouse Restaurant.

Do you like a GOOD hand-cut Steak? Do you like to shuck peanuts while you wait for a table? Do you like a noisy, fun atmosphere? Do you like a cold one with dinner? Do you like your hostess, waitress, assistant manager all to have a great smile and a very helpful attitude?  Good, then you've come to the right place!
Of course steak is only one of several items they serve. In fact they like to call them Fall-off-the-bone Ribs, Hand battered Chicken Critters, Various Dockside favorites, along with made from scratch side items, fresh baked bread, and Ice cold beer.
They don't push desserts much, cause they know you'll be full by then, but they do have a few.
In their words "We combine large portions and great value to give you Legendary Food at a reasonable price."  And we found it quite true.
I just wish there was one a thousand miles closer, so I could go back! And there is. But alas, there are only three in California and they are all more than 200 miles from my home. Shucks!

So if I come to visit you, can we go out to the Roadhouse? And do you think they could stand the both of us there at once?!?

I've got one six miles from my home in Wichita. I can tell whether they've had a wild night at the Roadhouse by counting the number of peanut shells in my driveway :)

This nicely remodeled hotel has a south-western look and feel and a huge lobby. Parking both in front and rear makes entry easier, and extra entry doors away from the lobby with room key access for security make it even easier.

The rooms were large, clean and furnished well. Amenities included a coffee/tea maker, hair dryer, and cable satellite TV. An outdoor pool, indoor spa and fitness center are also onsite.

An extended continental breakfast is offered.

This is a family run hotel and they do their best to make sure you are happy with your stay.

We had a small problem with our first room so the manager moved us and made sure we were pleased.

I recommend.
