Our Lovely Villa

Hi everyone!

Well we are here on the lovely island of Koh Samui! We are staying in a gorgeous villa in Lipa Noi near the main town called Na Thon. We have our own pool and its been really nice and hot so far. The villa is quite isolated and its a good job we have a car - this is a good thing though as its very peaceful. There is alot of wildlife right on our doorstep too and we have to make sure we close the gate when we go out as we don't want to get back and find a water buffalo in the pool! haha!

We've visited a few of the beaches around the island and done some serious sun worshipping! And as you will see from the many pics, one of the highlights so far has been elephant treking!

One our first day we arrived early to the villa and settled in a bit.

We then went to get some supplies (beer) from Tesco (yes they have a Tesco's here!) and just spent the day relaxing by the pool. In the evening we went for a lovely meal at a seafood restaurant just down the road. The food was soooo nice!

The next morning we drove 10mins up the road to the elephant trekking place. I wasn't sure if I wanted to actually get on an elephant as I was expecting them all to be badly treated and sad but they seemed happy enough (and even had a slight pink tinge to their ears which apparently, according to Miriam, means they are deffinatley happy). After feeding them bananas for a while we had to get up on a wooden platform to get onto the elephants back. At first it was a bit bumpy but once you got used to it it was great! we went across a little stream and round through the jungle for about half an hour.
The guides were great and took lots of pics of us when we sat on the elephants necks! (I know that sounds a bit cruel but they are very strong and they didn't mind). One of them even climbed up a tree to get a Cocoa pod for Val!

Miriam went to meet her friend Nicola later that day so it was down to 3 of us. We are hoping to meet up again with her soon!!!

Another highlight was climbing up to the top of a beautiful waterfall! The views were amazing and Adam even swam in one of the pools. We didn't realise though how much hard work it was going to be (the route was 3km UPWARDS there and back) and if it wasn't for the guide that showed us the way up we wouldn't have made it! We actually had to pull ourselves up using ropes and holding onto trees and stuff! Coming back down again was even harder! It was well worth it though! And afterwards we went to the beach to recover!
