Village of Roundstone
This has been a really full day of riding and enjoying the beautiful Irish landscape. Connemara is blessed with rugged beauty and provides the traveler with everything from sandy shoreline to peat bogs to placid lakes and gentle mountains. The day was winding down and Des had just one more stop before we headed back to our hotel. The pretty village of Roundstone is situated on the west side of Roundstone Bay. The town today is home to many artists and craftspeople but was originally established in the early 19th century for Scottish fishermen.
The late afternoon sun had warmed things up nicely. In this part of Ireland, any day with warm sunshine is a blessing and the local residents were savoring it. Shop owners were leaning up against their open doors and friends were congregating on the sidewalks and the outside eateries. All talking, laughing and drinking. Just being themselves. Just being Irish. Des quickly found a parking spot along Main Street. Leigh and I piled out for some exploring but Catheirne chose to stay in the car for a short nap. The busy day had tired her to the bone. Tomorrow ~ Donegal.
