Sad to see you go...
I could have had a sleep in this morning; however, I did not want to waste my last morning in Queenstown, in bed. So, I took myself off to the bus and into town. Today was the first overcast day we had. I was quite surprised by the clouds. I guess Queenstown was just as sad as I was that I was leaving today.
I found myself heading for ‘Bob’s Weigh’, in my opinion the best little coffee shop in Queenstown. This brightly coloured coffee shop served fantastic coffee, and from what I smelt of the breakfast, a bloody good one of those too. I didn’t order breakfast here as I was meeting Lauren at the Bathhouse restaurant on the lake at 10am for our last meal here in Queenstown. Nope, in Bob’s Weigh, despite my ravenous hunger, all I ordered was a ginger spiced Chai Latte, and boy was it delicious.
I sat in Bob’s Weigh drinking my Latte and writing in my travel journal while enjoying the fun atmosphere and watching people come and go. After ordering a coffee and thoroughly enjoying it, I toddled off to meet Lauren for breakfast.
The Bathhouse is a lovely little restaurant sitting on the shore of Lake Wakatipu, but I wouldn’t waste my time going there again though. The atmosphere was non-existent, the food bland and the coffee... forget about it. The only thing it had going for it, was the fabulous view.
After breakfast, we caught the bus back to the hotel to collect our bags and head off to the airport for our flight to Auckland. We had both bought a bottle of bubbly in Sydney to enjoy on our holiday. However, with being so busy and so tired by the time we got back to our room each night, we didn’t even open them. We agreed to give them to the staff of the hotel to enjoy at their Christmas Party. When we went to reception to give them the bottles, one of the girls offered to give us a ride to the airport. Bonus!
Oh, before hopping on the bus back to the hotel we found an internet cafe to check the loads for our flights. Not that we could have done anything about them now, there was no other flight we could take... well except for tomorrows. That I would not have minded. Bad news, or good news, depending on how you look at it... the Queenstown to Auckland flight is full.
When arriving at the airport we went straight to the check in counter to see how our luck was looking for the flight. Not good, I’m afraid. We were told to kill some time and come back 20 minutes prior to boarding.
We sat waiting near the check in counter from 20 minutes prior to departure and still we didn’t get the call. Gotta love the last minute dash to the plane... we received our boarding passes minutes before the flight was due to depart. I love those people who missed their flight. Thank you, whoever you are.
