Microbrews!
May 24, 2008 represents the 2nd annual Raley Field Brewfest which is a great event if you happen to be in the Northern California region. Put on by the Northern California Brewer's Guild and Raley Field, it's a great way to try local beers and breweries. The entry fee of $25.00 ($30 at the door) gets you 10 tastings and extra tastings can be purchased (4 for $5). This year they are offering VIP tickets ($40) which get you in an hour earlier starting at noon!
Some of the breweries present last year include Sierra Nevada, Rubicon Brewing, and Lost Coast Brewery which has excellent beers. Their award winning beers are very unique in flavor and a very popular choice where available. Their Downtown Brown is my favorite....a full-bodied nut brown ale, lightly hopped with a bit of roasted and crystal malts. It's unique because it lacks the heavy taste of a porter or stout. We just had this on tap at home recently - we didn't get tired of it at all! Mmmmmmmm.....
Hoppy, Sac Brew, Jack Russell, and BJ's are also local favorites that were represented at last year's event. It is rumored more breweries have signed up this year (over 30 were present for last year's event).
Tickets are available through Raley Field or Ticketmaster at http://www.raleyfield.com/calendar/
