A Quick Stop at Donner Lake
November 24, 2008
As Liz (Quest) and I headed up to Tahoe and Reno, there is a look out point for Donner Lake which we stopped at to get a couple quick photos.
Donner Lake is located in Truckee which is a small town known for river rafting and snow related activities as well. The lake is best viewed from Donner Pass. Both the lake and the pass were named after the notorious Donner party which spent a fateful winter near the lake in 1846. The Donner party is the group of emmigrants who left Illinois and ended up snowbound in the Sierra Nevadas, ultimately resorting to cannibalism to try and survive. Most of the party died but there were some survivors who made it over the now named, Donner Pass.
