A Day of Imbibing....Oktoberfest, A Wine BBQ, and a Fungus Bar! LOL
Holy cow! I wasn't sure how I was going to handle such a full day - I had agreed to volunteer at a local beerfest for the day as a pourer....YEAH!! Complimentary admission, drinking beer, and hanging out with friends - it was going to be a great day....except for the predicted 100 degree temperatures!!
My morning was a huge scramble as I ran to the store to get stuff to make a cake and find a blended wine for a bbq event through my local wine group that night. I knew it would be cutting it tight.....I had to get this cake done and only minutes to spare getting on the road to get to the park for the brewfest. I head out and think I am nearby when I get a call from my friend Milt who I'm working with...he sent me to the wrong park!!! WHAT THE HECK?!?!? Thanks Milt!!! Trying to figure out where I was and how to get me to the right place was a bit of a challenge due to Fair Oaks Blvd running in like 5 directions! I manage to find my way and am only about 15 minutes late to volunteer check in (Milt agreed to at least accept responsibility).
We get checked in and she tells us we will be the 3pm - 5pm shift. Great...we get to walk around and get sauced beforehand but I have the wine bbq I need to get to! I was hoping to leave the beerfest before 5pm since I have an hour drive to get my goodies and make it to the bbq itself. We managed to get ourselves into a little trouble visiting various booths and then we ran into the volunteer organizer who said she needed our help early now and to head to the Bud booth! All four of us headed over and ended up there on and off the rest of the day. Stephanie and I wandered around a bit, I played beer biatch for the boys, and we met some interesting people. Not to mention Stephanie and I ended up being the volunteers for cleavage shots of beer with the crazy drinking group in town E Clampus Vitus, aka The Clampers.
These guys were maniacs!!! LOL. They hung out at her booth area most of the afternoon and since the beerfest had no tickets, just unlimited drinks - yeah......these guys were completely out of their minds. So were we at that point probably!! HA HA.It was a crazy afternoon and we talked to lots of people, wandered around some more and next thing you know it's after 5pm and there are still a ton of people hanging out which means no way of getting to the wine event by 6pm!! We continued to take stuff down and the Bud guys came to pick up the kegs and equipment. We were left with this small tub of beer that was accounted for and they weren't taking back. Milt and Kevin worked to get it back to someone's car so they could continue the party at someone's house!! LOL.
I ran out and hurried home to grab my stuff and back out the door again. I got to the wine bbq and it was great - awesome food and even better wine although I barely drank any after the day at beerfest and also due to my current health issues. I ended up leaving the bbq fairly early and spoke with Milt on my way home who was having a drink in their local hangout, "The Mushroom". The bar is called the Mushroom...ok dokey! Apparently this is also where the Clampers call home. They were all out at a pub crawl in Folsom so the bar was pretty quiet. I stopped by and met up with Milt and Murph - a shot and one beer and I was done. I couldn't have any more as I had to drive in a few hours and needed to make sure I was completely sober.
Finally wandered out of the Fungus, uhh, mean Mushroom, and there were 4 sheriff cars outside but they were preoccupied with something else.Made my way home and was ready for bed but having friends in different time zomes is always bad - ended up on the phone with one of my best buds until 4am and I was wide awake...couldn't fall asleep!!! Grrrrrr....Finally around 5am after playing online for a bit, I was able to close my eyes!! I had to be up in 4 hours to get ready to head to another wine event!!!! Praying for no hangover...........
This event is more of a beerfest than a true Oktoberfest but there were still German beer and food available. And of course, there was at least one person we saw in lederhosen. Whoo Hoo!
