Bec rugged up

Arrived 2.30pm Saturday after two very long flights – thankfully they were also uneventful and it was smooth flying.  I managed to get a little sleep on the way to Tokyo but couldn’t on the way to Heathrow.  Bec is far more lucky at being able to sleep on planes so time flew (haha) for her.

The weather – it was nice and sunny on Saturday and Sunday but very cold, Monday and Tuesday were overcast and very cold.  Looking out the window I can see it’s going to be overcast, hopefully some breaks but still cold.  Thankfully it’s not going to windy at all so that helps.  The weather isn’t stopping us from getting out and about, so it can get as cold as it wants, just keep the rain away.

Caught up with some friends on Sunday for an afternoon at the local.  We had a great Sunday pork roast with Yorkshire puddings washed down by pints of various flavours, the girls got stuck into Pimms which, based on the number of empty jugs, they thoroughly enjoyed.  Monday we ventured out by ourselves and caught the tube into Piccadilly Circus – going down all those stairs to get to that platform felt like we were going down into the depths of the earths core.  It all went smoothly thankfully, and we were in town in a matter of minutes.  We didn’t really get to check the place out too much that day as we needed to open up our bank accounts and had other things we needed to get done, however I think we spent about an hour and half waiting for service and then it took another ½ hour to get it all sorted.

Nice wintery day in Notting Hill
After all the stuffing around and needing to do a little shopping we decided to head back to Earls Court.

Yesterday was an adventure back out to Heathrow to collect some unaccompanied baggage.  This involved getting on the tube, then exchanging to a bus, then a walk to the reception.  We then had to walk about 15 minutes around the security area to get to the loading dock – which was very stupid as we had to walk all the way back again to get to the bus stop.  We decided to catch a cab once we got to the bus/train exchange instead of lugging the bags up and down the stairs to get to the tube.  Had a little walk down Kensington High St checking out mobile plans, but got overwhelmed with all the options and brochures.  We get so ripped off in Aus when it comes to contract periods and charges.  Seems you can pretty much get any new mobile on any 12-month plan.

So today we are heading back out to get a number for each of us – I have a feeling we will have to go for pay as you go for a while until we actually receive some bills or mail for proof of address.  Need to get registered for National Insurance and a few other items, hopefully they don’t take hours on end to get completed.
