Eleven and a half months, and twenty countries. The story of a trip round the world with my girlfriend (now wife), Zoe. This blog is the story of the first two months: Russia, Mongolia and China.

A quick trip to Macau

We only did a day trip to Macau; we did it on the ferry from Hong Kong.

We weren't really interested in visiting the casinos, so concentrated our time looking around the old town. I think that with hindsight that may have been a mistake. We looked around the old town for a while, but didn't really feel a great connection with the place. Perhaps we should have gone to see the newer, glitzier side of Macau.

In the evening we tried to get a taxi to take us to a restaurant that we'd picked out of the guidebook, but the only one we managed to flag down decided he didn't want to take us (that's what it must have been; I can't believe he really didn't know where it was, or how to read our map of Macau, as he was claiming). In the end we ended up eating in a restaurant near where we were, and trying to spend all of our remaining Macanese Pataca, since we'd got too much out of the cash machine, and you can't change it back outside Macau.
