Haad Yao beach on Koh Phangan
Well after a quiet night in at the Thai boxing ... and the hair salon ... we all met up late for breakfast at about 11 o clock in the restaurant. It was another glorious day so we decided instead of wasting it completely by lying about the bungalows and the beach we would head and explore a little more of the island!

Conveniently enough Loy Fa also hired out scooters for 200 BAHT (about EUR 4) a day so we all hired a scooter each, well Lief and Kerry had ones from the day before! It was both Carolines and my first time on a scooter so we got a brief introduction to a scooter (thankfully it was an automatic) and we had a few practice take offs and stops before we left Loy Fa!

We headed off from Loy Fa and got petrol first.
Haad Rin ... home to teh Full Moon party ... we scootered to here .. which was fun on a 'hilly' island
The petrol pumps here aren't really technical ... they have a big drum full of fuel and then a handpump to fill a glass measuring container above it ... from which they dispense the fuel. It cost us 90 BAHT (about EUR 1) to fill the tank and this lasted us all day!

So off we headed northwards on a mission to find a nice beech to do a bit of sunbathing! We pulled in at a beach called Haad Yao .. and it was gorgeous. The beach front was lined with bars, restaurants, massage tables and it even had a diving centre. The beach was very clean and the water got reasonably deep within about 10 meters so it was ideal for both sunbathing and lying out!

So we spent about 2 hours here sunbathing and swimming before we all got hungry. We decided to head off again on the scooters to find another beach and to find something to eat.
Kerry wondering what the hold up was on the journey
We chose Haad Rin ... the home of the FMP (Full Moon Party .... a techno filled, drug enduced, alcohol fuelled all night beach rave that happens every month on the full moon). We spent about 45 minutes scootering here across hilly turny roads that would remind you of a rollercoaster!! The view was spectacular though as we travelled along!

When we arrived in Haad Rin .. it was a small village that had been turned into a mini Koh San Road from Bangkok. It had shops, pubs, tour companies, tattoo parlours and everything else for a backpacker! We grabbed something to eat in a local restaurant before going looking for the famous FMP beach. We found Haad Rin East beach which was supposed to be the home of the full moon party and to me it was quite un-impressive.

The beach itself wasn't very large and there was debris everywhere on it ... leaves, branches, sea weed and the waves were crashing onto it ... so it wasn't great for swimming or sunbathing.

We decided that we swould head on somewhere else and get closer to home! We stopped just outside Haad Rin for Lief to get more fuel and as we were all parked up there waiting, a fella scootering past us yelled out Meghan's name ..... it was one of Lief's friends from home! Its a typical holiday story ... there you are on the other side of the world, scootering around an island and you bump into a friend from home!
Jay (Lief's friend) couldn't belive it either so we decided to head back to his place so Meghan and Lief could say hello to his girlfriend! So we headed back northwards and stopped at Baan Tai where we saw Jay's bungalow .
A hut on the beach beside Baan Tai ... this was on the beach front .. see the sand bags!
.. now these really were on the beachfront .. with sandbags along the front of the house walls!

After about 10 minutes here we decided to head on back towards home. We had planned on having a few drinks that evening on one of the balconies so we all headed back to get showered and sorted out. We scootered down to the shop where we bought beer ... vodka and Lief bought a bottle of what we thing was Sang sun Thai whiskey. We all sat on Lief and Meghans balcony (as this was the biggest) and had a few beers! After the beers we all felt hungry so we went back up to the restaurant to get dinner. This was where i tried my first Thai dish ..... Thai Green Squid Curry ... which was supposed to be mild ... but by my irish palatte ... this was hot and spicy!

So after having the mouth burned of myself by the Thai green curry .
Me and Lief chilling on the balcony on Liefs and Meghan's last night
. we headed back for more drink! When we got back to the balcony ..... 2 fella's from next door called over ..... Ramo and Quan .... both from Argentina! Tehy were on a holiday before heading home as well as they had been working in New Zealand for the last few years! They had a few beers with them as well ... and the bucket from the bathroom full of water to keep them cool! (I knew there was a better use for that bucket that was supposed to hold water to flush the toiled with) So we all sat out ... chatted and drank ... until the early hours ... well earlier for me as i had enough drink and went to bed about 1 ..... another good ending to another good day!!
