Day 55 .... Travelling from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh
January 16, 2008
As anyone who has travelled around Camdia probably knows, if a person wants to go from Siem Reap back into Thailand they come across what the Lonely Planet describes as "The Boulevard Of Broken Backsides". The road from Siem Reap to the border is supposed to be horrific, and i even heard that from a few people htat had travelled it to get to Siem Reap while we were there! A ccording to the lonely planet there is an unnamed Thai Airline company paying the Cambodian Government a fee to delay upgrading the road, thus making most people fly ... now I know this is unfair but what can you do!
As we we're heading to Koh Chang in the South East Of Thailand this road wasn;t going to be much use to us anyway as we would have to change somewhere inside the Thai border, so we decided to take a trip back to Siem Reap and head over the border from there!
We managed to get to stay in the lakeside area of Phnom PEnh this time as we arrived a little earlier so we checked into a place called the Green Lake Gueshouse, a real little backpacker orientated guesthouse built on stilts over the lake itself. We spent all evening there watching DVD's from the guesthouses collection before heading to bed! Another chilled out day!
