Day 24 - Our first whole day in Laos ... and it was a bit of a waste!
Well having adapted to the slow pace of life on the slow boat into Laos today was just a day for doing nothing. I took a brief wander around the main street of the town and found a few internet cafe's where I managed to catch up on my blogs. The blog updating isn't too hard but finding an internet café that had a reliable connection to the net to upload photos and stuff is harder. They do have broadband access over here in Thailand and Laos but it is not as dependable as what you'd find in a developed country.
The only other thing I done of any significance was book all our flights through Vietnam. As it stands, we now fly from Vientienne (Laos) to Hanoi (Vietnam) on December 22nd for Christmas, then from there to Danang on December 28th for New Year and then from there to Ho Chi Min City, formely Saigon on Janurary 4th.
From there we still have to make all our plans for Cambodia but we'll worry about that closer to the time.
We grabbed something to eat afterwards and sat down to watch the big matches in the Premership, Man Utd v Liverpool and Arsenal v Chelsea. A great result for Man Utd in the first match and a not so good result for them in the second match. As you can tell I'm a closet Man Utd fan. We met up with the 2 Irish girls that we met on day 2 of the slow boat trip, Trish (Galway) and Yvonne (Roscommon). We headed for a few drinks with them afterwards. Of course the bar closed too early for any Irish person but we had been told that there was a bowling alley nearby that stayed open late and served drink ... so off we headed to that.
The bowling turned out to be great craic with a few beers in me and I managed to win it. I'm not sure exactly how because the pins kept moving when I was lining up my attempt ... but maybe I was moving in harmony with them ... lol!! After the bowling we headed back to the guesthouse after another good night with travel friends!
