Day 1 of the RTW trip!

Ok ... here's my first active travel blog! Just arrived in Bangkok after a 3 hour Bus Journey from Donegal to Dublin, a 50 minute flight from Dublin to London Heathrow and then an 11 hour flight from London Heathrow to Suvarnabhumi Airport Bangkok! Have spent the last 40 minutes in a Taxi to Koh San Road ... and here I am!! The party starts here .... WAHOO!!!

Marco Polo Hostel is right in the middle of Koh San Road in Bangkok. Its about half way down the road on your right hand side, down a small alleyway. Its a basic hostel with no internet or phone services, and it has roms with fans, air-con and hot or cold water. Mainly the rooms with air-con come with hot water showers.

We got a double room with air-com and a hot shower, but the shower didn;t heat at all. Its not too bad when you are stuck in the humidity of Bangkok for teh first time, the cold shower goes down well ... but we did pay for a hot shower. The room cost 350 BAHT for the night with a key surity of 400 BAHT. The room was clean. It did not have any blankets or sheets other than the sheet on the matress. There were no power sockets in the room so charging phones or ipods or anything isn't possible.

As Koh San road is so jammed packed with restaurants bars and hostels it can be hard to realise that Marco Polo is right next door to a disco bar that keeps going to about 2am ... so if you're looking for piece and quiet ... i would try somewhere else.

Overall .... basic facilities, clean and tidy, relatively cheap .. but too noisy for a good nights sleep
