It always not a good idea heading out for your first meal in a new city without knowing what you should be paying. You've got no prior experience to gauge it against. You might have read all the travel blogs/reviews you can, but that still doesn't weigh as much as personal experience. Anyway, we paid 75RMB for what to be honest was cheap and greasy food. If you do the conversion to your own currency it might look very reasonable. And its not like I couldn't afford it, even on a backpackers budget. But its pretty expensive for China standard consider what we had. But I guess thats the price you pay when your a tourist. You're bound to get ripped off ever now and again.
After dinner went for a few quiet drinks at the pub across from our hotel. It's beginning to sound like I'm having the most boring trip ever. But honestly its not. Even if we weren't as tired as we were. There wouldn't have been much open in the area we were staying. Plus we didn't feel confident with the local transport system as we had yet to use it. 10pm at night was not the best time to see if it was easy to commute in Beijing.
