Day 1 - Tangier Via Asilah to Rabat
We stowed all our gear into the back of our minivan tour bus and left our hotel in the morning and stopped at Cape Spartal, which is Africa's most north-westerly point and stopped at a cave/grotto. We then headed south and stopped at the seaside village of Asilah, an old Portuguese Atlantic port. We had a guided tour through the medina and had lunch there, where I had my first of many Tajines I would eat throughout my trip. It was pretty good and similar to something I cook here at home. I noticed that the spices and food in Morocco were pretty similar to the latin cuisine I grew up on.
After lunch, we proceeded to Rabat. That evening we ate at an Italian restaurant which served some pretty good brick oven pizza and pasta. Though, there were some pretty interesting characters in that place. One guy in particular stood out. He was this big guy (could not place his accent) who insulted quite a few people there and acted as though he owned the place, the block, etc. Gave the impression as though he were some type of, oh let's say, head of a "family", gang, crimelord, etc, need I go on, get the picture.
