Almost break-fast time in Kota Bahru

Day 042: 5 hours, 2.3 kms

I then catch a bus to the nearest city: Kota Bahru.  It’s nearing Ramadan break-fast time, so the streets and shops are quickly becoming deserted as people hurry off for their first meal of the day.  But unlike Morocco where everybody goes home, it looks like here in Malaysia people often opt to eat at restaurants.  So I figure I’ll join them--  but fist I take my video clip in front of the clock tower in a nice little plaza…

I squeeze into a crowded little Chinese restaurant at the last table left and order a meal.  It’s a cheery atmosphere--  a nice opportunity to get into the Ramadan spirit with the local Muslim population.

Afterwards I find a quiet place to play some music in a nearby park.  Most folks are still at home recovering from their break-fast meal, but a couple of guys come and listen for a bit…

This trip has been going at such a breakneck speed, I don’t really have enough time to really soak things in.  Malaysia to Thailand to Laos to Vietnam to Cambodia to Thailand and now back to Malaysia… each of these countries with their very unique culture, landscape and lifestyle.   I’m starting to wonder if trying to cram all these countries into one five week trip was really such a good idea… I suppose, if this Playing Music Around the World turns out to be a long-term project, I can always come back and really explore each of these countries.

And if this Project of mine doesn’t last… well, at least I managed to play a couple of concerts in each of these countries…

Finally, I figure it’s time to catch an overnight bus south.
