DOGS and The Bishops - KCLSU
I remember Faye and SarahLou used to go on and on about this band, Dogs. The used to wear badges, go on about Johnny and listen to their music constantly on their Ipod. So when they were playing at KCLSU (Kings College London Student Union), I decided to tag along (seeing as though it was at Fayes Uni)
SarahLou had already met the band, before they started recording, so she knew them pretty well, so we managed to get tickets easily. I still didn't know anything about the band, so Faye sent me some of their stuff to listen too.
I never got around to listening to the stuff though....so when i got to her uni that day, she went through everything she knew about the band..a bit like a crash course on the Dogs really! I was surprised to discover that Johnny Cooke (lead singer) was from Bethnal Green (a place in East London where i once used to live).
They were also being supported by Paul Weller, and were due to be the support acts for Razorlight. It might just be good i thought! We hung around the union for a bit, meeting some of Fayes new friends (we'd just started Uni, and it was the first time we went separate ways having been to the same primary, secondary school and sixth form!)
We decided to go for a drink at around 6. SarahLou wasn't coming until about 8, and there was no point going to the venue without her, seeing as though she knew all the right people!
Met SarahLou at about 8 and went to the union. The Bishops were supporting (pretty shite). I think they were twins, or brothers. Whatever the case, they weren't all that! We just hung around on the top deck (the union has a balcony) drinking and catching up with SarahLou and her friends.
As soon as The Bishops were off, we headed to the stage so that we would be up front. It wasn't too hard, as SarahLou kept shouting 'Lil' one alert, make way!'...lol. It was pretty funny though, people just made way for the little one i.e. me!
As soon as Johnny came on stage, the crowd went wild chanting 'We are the Dogs, We are the Dogs, We are We are We are the dogs!' It was awesome! And as soon as they started playing, i could see why SarahLou and Faye loved them so much! They were immense! Knew exactly how to keep a crowd entertained, and had the attitude of a true east-londoner!..i loved it!
Halfway through the gig i remember a guy picking me up after i fell in the mosh pit and saying 'Your too little to be here sweehear', go home!'.
.lol He was great, kept stopping people from pushing me by shouting 'Mind the lil' one!'..hahaha!Gig ended at about 11. We were hoping we'd meet Johnny. Faye was so estatic because she fancied the pants of the guy! He was no where to be seen however, so we decided to give it a miss!
Going home was a mission! There were no trains, and we couldn't get a bus anywhere! Luckily my good friend Tony drove all the way down from Hackney to London Bridge at 1am, and picked us up and took as all home...bless him!
Great gig overall! Got up with so many bruises the next day! The pain is the best part after a gig! Reminds you of the good times!
The Dogs will forever remain as the band who took my gig virginity.
