Rostock - Schwerin - Berlin
We said our goodbyes to Simon and left for Schwerin in the morning. I didn't really know what to expect since it was another new area to me, I'd never seen Mecklenburg-Vorpommern before this trip; the Bundesland of which Schwerin is capital.
It's a beautiful place, very typical of Northern Germany, light, airy and very refined. We spent most of the day wandering around the shops . We went inside the Schweriner Schloss, which was quite magnificent and very interesting. I don't know a lot about German history outside WWII [my Dad is a specialist in that part of history] especially the old monarchs and royalty.
Later in the afternoon it was time to get on the road again, and head for Berlin, the next stop point where we would be staying a few nights.
I love being on the road most of the time, but when you know that Berlin [my favourite place in the entire world] is at the end of it, it makes it all the better.Driving in Berlin is quite interesting. An AirBerlin plane flew very low over the road, obviously coming in to land at Tegel, and we nearly got hit by a lorry. Drivers there are quite crazy. I'd never been in a car in Berlin before, so it was eye opening for me. I'd never seen Berlin by night either. And when we got into the centre of the city while looking for Micha's friends flat, we went right by the Brandenburger Tor and the Fernsehturm, which was quite surreal.
Eventually we found Eva's [Micha's friend] flat, hence ending one of the greatest road trips I've ever been on.
