Nadi View from Backpackers

My time in Fiji was really really relaxing! The first day/night I stayed on the main land in Nadi. It was a really nice backpackers. However, the beach was not nice at all and the water was really dirty....not what you expect from Fiji. Well, I thought, ok I am going to the two other islands the next day and there the water and the beaches must be nicer.....otherwise, where do they get the pictures for the catalogues from....

The next morning, a bus took us to Denerau Port where we caught the ferry to the first island Kuata. Unfortunatley, the weather didn't look too good but I decided anyway to go on a snorkeling trip. So we went right out on the ocean to a reef where we saw about 6 or 7 reefsharks. I didn't feel scared at all as the sharks weren't interested in us at all!!! While we were snorkeling, it started to rain really heavely.

It sounded like when the rain drops on a tent and your inside of it. After about an hour snorkeling we went back. In the evening, the animation team showed us to dance the Bula dance and we did some games as well. That was really funny!!

On Tuesday, the boat took us to Naviti, one of the biggest islands in Fiji. The weather was really really nice and I got really really brown!! The water here was clear and very warm! The backpackers here was so nice and the food was good as well. We enjoyed a really funny evening entertainment with Fiji's dancing again the Bula dance and playing games....

As the weather was looking aweful again, I decided to go on a village tour. That was sooooo good! First, some of the village people did a ceremony to welcome us.

We all had to drink a special drink out of a coconut "basket" which tasted and looked like dirty water... :-) Then some of the women from the village set up a little market for us. They sold all kinds of souvenirs. After that, we walked through the village to the school where the kids showed us their books and sang for us. It was sooooo cute and very interesting to see how they live and how they are being educated. I was amazed of the good education!!! Unfortunately, it started to rain on the way back (we went by boot). We all got soaked!! It was raining the whole afternoon and there was nothing else to do than read and sleep...I was soo glad I had this really good book with me (Biography from Anthony Kiedis, Red Hot Chilli Peppers).

On Thursday, the weather was better again and it was really hot. However, I only had half a day left. The ferry came around 2 and brought all the backpackers to the main land again where we got a free bus to the airport.

Fiji was nice and relaxing and the people are so friendly. They always welcomed us with a song and also said goodbye to us with a song! However, I thought it would look more like the Maledives which it doesn't!
