Woke up that morning & a mosquito bit my eyelid...I was still happy though

When I woke, my left eyelid was puffy and I looked in the mirror to see that I resembled Rocky Balboa after a bad fight.  A mosquito had bit my eyelid, leaving me swollen and itchy.  It was kinda funny but slightly annoying at the same time.

The first thing I did was go out onto the balcony and began taking pictures of everything and at every angle (now I understand the Japanese tourists that come to SF...hee har har) and stood in near disbelief that I was actually there.  It was my first official glimpse of white sand beaches, clear to turquoise waters and coconut trees.  After an hour or so of quiet contemplation in the morning, I got showered and ready to go.  I coerced my still-sleeping friend Jayeesha from bed with the reminder that we'd be having our first real 'Jamaican breakfast' as soon as she was ready.

She quickly readied herself and we went to the restaurant they serve breakfast in at the resort and ordered the 'Jamaican breakfast' which is considered the national breakfast and consists of saltfish and ackee, callaloo and Johnny cakes.  To compliment the meal, I couldn't resist the fresh pineapple juice offered since such a delight is not readily available at home.  We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and decided that we liked it so much that we must try to have it every morning.

After breakfast it was time to explore the resort's beachfront but only once we'd arranged a late checkout so we could enjoy the resort since we'd only just arrived.  Then we walked down to the beach where we promptly found a nice shady spot to commence lounging.

I can see my feet!
Between getting up to take pictures and attempting to take a nap to catch up on sleep, at least an hour passed and my friend decided to go up to the room to get her swimsuit on while I moved to a nearby hammock from which I took even more pictures.

After another hour or so in the hammock, I decided to join my friend for a swim and went to get my suit on.  It was so nice to swim in warm ocean water for the first time in my life and come to shore when Jayeesha came back with pina coladas.  We sipped our drinks on the beach and at that moment, felt that we were truly on vacation.  After another swim and more photo opportunities, it was time to get ready to leave.

We checked out of the room at 3:00 and the resort had arranged a driver for us to take us to our next destination in Negril.

Our driver Howard arrived, we loaded the van and were on our way.  It was slow-going due to heavy traffic on the main road and at other times, we had to take a detour or wait an hour to pass areas where the road was flooded from the recent heavy rains.  Under good conditions the trip would only have taken an hour and a half but it took at least twice that amount of time for us.  The sun was setting as we reached the town just before Negril and as we pulled into the Blue Cave Castle, night had fallen.  We said goodbye to our driver Howard who had been a wealth of information to us during our trip and settled in to the 'castle'.
