Muddy Buddies
Got there nice and early and while walking up with my family and beau I passed one of my coworkers. I was surprised to run into him there, considering how many runners there were at this race. My family and I got to a nice plot of sand near the starting line and planted our chairs. No sooner I turned around, there was another coworker who happens to be one of my TravBuddies. I will vouch for him when I get the rest of the photos developed. I told him, that someone else from the shop was here already to. So we all found each other and planted our stuff together. Of course the usual fruit was being passed out at the race. I went to grab a few bananas and oranges and on my way, I ran into my mother's husband cousins.
Now I was really surprised. To run into 4 people I knew all in the same day!!! I guess this race wasn't that big after all.I was in the third wave of runners. Off we went. I was about 2 miles in and passed the 'family' who were stopped to take a breather. Now don't get me wrong, I don't blame them for stopping, but....... I just couldn't do it! I kept running as long as I could until maybe the third sand dune when I had to pound my way up. I think I walked for about 10 seconds after that one. And then the sand dunes kept coming. And the obstacles and the wall to climb and more sand dunes and more sand. Not much hardball in the entire race, The mud was the fun stuff, it was wet, dirty, but refreshing!!! I think I walked about 3 times, but only for a few seconds, heheheheheh!
I was 50 minutes in and was told 1/2 mile to go.
Now in a normal ground pounding run, 1/2 mile I can pick it up and finish hard, but........ It felt like forever, when I was told 1/4 mile to go. How could it be???? Why was it taking so long??? My body was tired. I looked at my watch close to the finish and saw that I was just under 1 hour, but the race clock said over an hour.... Now I wasn't sure. I knew I wanted to come in, in under an hour. After the results were posted I saw on the results, 60:00 flat, wow!!! What a good thing for me, I guess....... I recovered quickly, but I bled thru my shoe and didn't know it until my family told me I had paint on my shoe. No, I broke a lot of skin open and bled a lot on my right heel.
My shoe is stained with my blood. It is funny, cause I didn't feel it, I felt a little irritation on my heel but nothing more than that...... I am glad I didn't wear socks, the wet sand and mud probably would have made my feet far worse. I don't like wearing socks in mud runs.Needless to say, all of my 'buddies' and I have our own interpretations of the ASYMCA Mud Run from Aug 9. But we all agree it was the most fun of all the races we have ever done!!!
