A weekend in Gilleleje
Denmark is very famous among other European for it's great summerhouse areas. Most of them are situated in Jutland, but the north and south of Sealand also have some exellent spots.
In the summer the places are usually crowded with families with children, so it's an exellent way for the kids to make new friends. Dansk Folkeferie, a big Danish Traveling agency has made small villages of houses- called family centres. Here you can enjoy swimming in both in- and outdoor swimming pools, playing soccer and tennis or take a walk at the beach.
My closest family and I went for an extended weekend this fall, and the grounds were almost empty. It was so great to be able to walk at the beach- well, actually you walk with a view over the beach. Heading for Gilleleje town there's a small track along the beach app.
20 meters above. The view is amazing, especially when you hear the sound of the ocean in the background. Check out the stone and script of Søren Kierkegaard. It's on the path, and it's supposed to be one of his favourite spots. I can certainly understand why.Gilleleje town is a very nice little place with lots of cheap (for Denmark anyway) shops and if you go down to the habour, you'll find a fish market with fresh fish. We had fillet of fish one night, and even though I'm not the biggest fish fan, it was absolutely amazing- melted in your mouth.
The houses are quite big, so even if your a big family, you'll have no problems with privacy or space. I just loved it there.
