the perfect beach

canoa is the beach i've been looking for this entire trip. i speak well of it here apprehensively, because honestly i don't want to draw anymore tourism here than there already is. which isn't much, at least now that it's the middle of february.
the beach is long and lined by low sandstone cliffs. the waves are large and tubular at high tide, great for body boarding, and low tide reveals a long sand bar far from shore, connected to the mainland by a large shallow triangle.
suffice it to say, we spent the day on the beach. we woke up early, had breakfast at the only padaria in brazil that's not equipped to make hot sandwiches, and went straight to the beach. heading out, it looked like we were the only people there. when we got down to the shore from the cliffs we saw that we weren't, but we found a spot a little way down the beach that allowed us to keep the illusion.
we parked out a closed beach bar that had a few large leafy canopies set up for shade. i spent along time playing in the water, then fell asleep listening to richards ipod.
back at the apartment we made some risoto a little before sunset, watched some southpark, played some cards, and then headed out to see what the town had to offer. it's still early as i write this, but it seems like there's not much going on around here.
