Yet again it was time to set off on another trip with my school. We dont do things by half so this time i was off to Vietnam. 58 students in total but split into much smaller managable groups (thank god for that) The day before heading from Ireland we stayed in the school (not that there was any sleeping done) to be collected by the bus at 3.00am. Always a good start. Headed to the airport then from Dublin to London and more airports and checking in and passports and kids falling off trollies but all part of it. Finally after a stop in KL we get to Vietnam, with body clocks all out of whack we manage to talk ourselves into paying extra for a taxi into the back backers district of Ho Chi Minh to begin the task of looking for accomadation. First place on the 7th floor no lift and no air conditioning, nice! We head off the following day on two day trip on the Mekong Delta which was pretty cool into small vilages for honey tea. Lots to see on the trip. When we got back to HCM we get out new hostel(Yellow House) which would end up being our home for a while. We take in some of the sights around the city lie Cu Chi tunnels and the war meseum. Time for some travelling so off to Cat Thien National park for some acclimatisation trekiing in the jungle. The kids are having a ball, they can come up with the most unsusual games like the sweating competion (as you do) After a few days sleeping with the insects, spiders and lizards its time to head on towards our main trekking in the central highland around Dalat. Our new mother in Dreams Hotel (has to be the nicest woman around) is there with a smile as we gather around to organise the 5 day trekking with the guys from Phat Tire. Some pretty tough trekking gets ous through jungle and up to the top of Lang Bian. The Dreams Hotel has never been a nicer place when we got back with showers and the chance to wash some clothes.. He head even further north towards Hoi An and Hue to see the perfume river and do some more treking in Bach Ma National park. After all this was the 18 hours train trip back to HCM to start our project work. 5 day of painting and recovering tables and chairs as well as playing with the kids in the orphanage was something that the kids found tough, emotional and hugely rewarding at the same time. From this we had a last few days of R&R at the beach. This was a great trip for all of us with plenty of ups, downs, agruements and laughs along the way
