New Orleans Day 1....

... Or to be more accurate, night one, since I spent Day 1 in transit. My day started at 3:30AM to get to SFO for a 6AM, which I did. Unfortunately, the plane wasn't as punctual. Due to "mechanical problems" we didn't get going into nearly 8AM. Further delays during my layover in Denver meant I didn't get to New Orleans until the early evening.
The plan was to rent a car and drive out to western Louisiana to get a taste of Cajun country. The plan was thwarted, however, when we found out the entirety of New Orleans was out of rental cars. Yah, every company, every location. So weird. That, and apparently the freeway was on fire due to some crazy gas explosion near Baton Rouge.
So staying in New Orleans it was. Our cabbie from the airport was really nice and suggested a bunch of places to go. Maybe too nice.
Cabbie: You should go to Bourbon St (referring to that infamously debaucherous avenue of booze and beads in the French Quarter)
Me: Uh, no, I'm with my Mama. I don't think I'll be taking her to Bourbon St.
Cabbie: Ha Ha.
Cabbie: Can I take your Mama to Bourbon St?
We ended up walking around the French Quarter in the chilly November night. It wasn't very busy at all.. seems all the Thanksgiving traffic was over at the superdome. We watched a street musician play the blues, oggled at alligator taxidermy at tourist shops and took pictures with the statues and steeples casting shadows in the night.
