Today we had to wait for UPS to deliver Arum's naturalization certificate so that we could get our renewal passports. When Arum's mom sent it, she said that UPS guarantees next day delivery by 10:30am. We wait until then and nothing came so we called and then they said they only guarantee delivery by the end of business in HI and that we probably won't get it until the afternoon. It is silly because it arrived in Honolulu early in the morning so it doesn't matter that we are in the middle of the Pacific. After much worrying and missing out noon appointment at the passport agency, we had some local food that we ate at the beach. Without Arum's certificate we went to downtown to make our 2:30 appointment. On the ride there, UPS delivered so Arum went back to pick up the certificate.
Now we were free to explore Honolulu. We saw the Hawaiian palace and state capitol building in downtown. We went to a beach and saw a bunch of surfers. Next, we walked to Waikiki beach to see the free Friday night Hula/music shows and had lunch while watching a show. Finally, we began walking back along the beach from Waikiki to the house where we are staying. It took maybe 3 hours total and we got back around 11.
Tomorrow is our first full day of sightseeing and are planning to climb Diamond Head for the view from the top and snorkel in Haunama Bay.
