Today we woke up in Hong Kong at our hostel much later than we expected. We intended to get up around 7am, but since our room had no windows, the room stayed dark even in the morning. So I woke up but kept thinking it was night time and Steve's watch alarm did not wake him. So around 9:30am I finally checked my watch and realized how late it was! Steve and I quickly got ready and left. We first went down to the hostel office to use the internet briefly.
Next we took the subway down to the lower part of Kowloon. We first had to go buy our ferry tickets to nearby Macau. On the way we had a breakfast of fried noodles and a meat bun. We also wanted to go the Hong Kong Museum that morning but we didn't end up having enough time so we just got on the ferry which we bought a ticket for for HK$137 (around $17 each).
So we arrived in macau around 1pm and first walked around to find some lunch. We ate at a little restaurant and Steve had congee with frog (which was totally gross to watch him eat pieces of frog in a hot bowl of rice), and I had some seafood with rice which I did not like because it had some unidentifiable pieces of seafood. After lunch we walked towards the Macau Museum. Macau is so small that you can pretty much walk to everything, though there was a big hill in our way that we had to walk around, and got a little lost.
The Macau museum turned out to be really really neat. I enjoyed it so much. It was all about the history and culture of Macau, showing the differences in Chinese and Portugal influences on Macau, since it was occupied by Portugual for around 400 years. Highlights were a recreation of building styles over the years, a display on Chinese weddings and opera, a display of local dishes, and a thing about cricket fighting. The museum was even air conditioned which was great and I really enjoyed all the cultural and historical learning.
We also passed by the ruins of St. Paul Church which burned down in the 1700s or smthg. We walked back to a hotel where we would be taking an airport bus to the Macau airport.
We then found the bus station to pick up the airport bus and took it to the Macau airport. We flew on AirAsia which we had booked tickets a week before to Bangkok from Macau. While waiting for our flight, we had some dinner at the airport food court. Steve thought the food did not look very good so didnt eat much, but I had some eggplant and pork with rice. We also ate some of the seaweed that my Aunt gave us before with the rice.
Our flight left Macau at 8:45 and landed in Bangkok at 10:30 (1 hour time difference).
We arrived in Bangkok and got Steves bag which he checked. Then we took an airport shuttle to an area with many geust houses and hotels. It was around 12midnight when we got there and we just got a more expensive hotel on a big backpacker street that cost 700Baht (around $18).
