CASTELLO DI VELONA

Castello di Velona may be the most amazing hotel I have ever had the pleasure to visit.

The converted 12th century castle sits above Val d'Orcia in the heart of Tuscany. From here, you can see for miles in every direction.

Some of the world's best grapes and olives are harvested in the valley below. In the distance, you can view Mt. Amiata, Italy's highest extinct volcano and Tuscany's highest mountain peak.

Its prime location made it an important watch tower during the Middle Ages. It was restored into a luxury boutique hotel in 1997 with 24 distinct suites and rooms.

Because I stayed at Castello di Velona during the off-season, I was able to purchase a package from luxurylink.com at considerable savings.

Everything concerning my visit met or exceeded my expectations. There was nothing that the wonderful hotel or restaurant staff could have done to make my stay any better.

I can't think of a more romantic place to spend a special occassion in terrific Tuscany than this one-of-a-kind accomodation in a 900 year-old fortress.
