Groovy Maps Sky Crawl

I had the opportunity to join the folks at Groovy Map and a gathering of other Bangkok Expats for a pub crawl off of the Bangkok Skytrain.  The crowd at this yearly event was low, probably suppressed by the massive monsoon downpour that stopped traffic and flooded streets just as people would have been leaving for the event.  It was advertised as the "Devil Crawl" because of the date 6-6-06, a significance that was completely meaningless for the Thai population, but served as a good excuse for alchohol for the Farang (westerners).

We joined the crawl at the Huntsman Pub, inside the Landmark Hotel.   The pub was fairly typical fare, and the drinks seemed a bit pricey (bear in mind, Bangkok has made me a cheap miser because it is usually so inexpensive).  The crowd stayed for a little while before hiking up to Nana BTS station for our mystery destination.

After missing the skytrain stop we needed and doubling back, we disembarked at Thong Lo station and headed down the even side of Sukhumvit road to La Visage,   Visage turned out to be a very nice place to hang out.  The Groovy Maps folks had arranged a great deal, 300 Baht for all you can drink for an hour, and they served some very good complimentary appetizers.  The restaurant and bar is built entirely from Teak wood buildings that had been rescued and re-assembled into a very open but cozy area.   The staff was very polite and helpful, which can be hard to find in Bangkok, and everyone seemed very comfortable to hang there.

Of course, being a work night, we had to turn in fairly early and La Visage was our last stop.  It was an excellent last stop though, and I can highly recommend the place to anyone who wants an elegant comfortable place to dine or drink.  The Groovy Maps guys seem to know their Bangkok scene pretty well, so if you are looking for a good guide on food, drink and dancing,  pick up one of the maps and give it a try.
