Tunis and Bardo museum
August 12, 2004
After Carthage and Sidi Bou Said that day we had no so much time for Tunis, but we had to see Bardo museum. So, we walked just through centre of town. Tunis is mix of Arab, African and Europe in the same time, old and new, all at the same time, and in the centre of Tunis near old Medina you'll see part of town that have not changed much since colonial times. Strange mix, Cathedral of St.Vincente de Paul in the centre is fascinating even is situated in centre between colonial buildings and medina in arab style - but all this mix makes Tunis unique from my point of view :o)
Bardo museum was fascinating. It was Bardo Palace before and her owner decided to made museum with collections of mosaics, and today this museum has the best collection of Roman mosaics in the world. There are few levels in museum where you can walk through history of Tunisia, Punic period, Greek, Carthagenian, Christian and Islamic, and everything is very impressive. I had little problem with light in museum , so photos are not so perfect, but at least worth to see :o)
