Hammamet & Jasmin Hammamet
August 10, 2004
When we dicided to go to Hammamet - Jasmin Hammamet we heared that is known as "Tunisian Saint Tropez". OK , I still haven't been in Saint Tropez and can't say it's true, but however, Jasmin Hammamet is nice and pleasant place. To not make mess Hammamet is older than Jasmin Hammamet and has nice old Medina, while Jasmin Hammamet is modern touristic place grown up in last 10 years with lots of hotels along the coast, with "young" Medina build the same time as resorts of Jasmin Hammamet (but it's cute for tourists who doesn't care of how old is building :o) and with aqua park called "Carthag land" where you can enjoy as little child. Whole area is known for Jasmin flower and this is how the tourist resort Jasmin Hammamet got the name. Beaches are long and sandy, but i have to admit not so clean and sea was full of medusas so after we tried twice to swim and enjoy we had to give up and back to the pool.
I wasn't so happy 'cause of that , i don't like swiming pool so much, I adore sea, but this time was really impossible to enjoy in the sea. Maybe i don't sound so happy , but Jasmin Hammamet was just cute place for me (to much artificial for me) and base from where we gone to explore Tunisia . Only I have to admit that food in hotel was good and every night we could taste some national meal and I discovered kus-kus that was amazing :o)
But Hammamet is another story with old Medina. Once this was only "sleepy" fishing village - the name comes from the Arabic al-hammamat, meaning "the baths" and there is a lot in old town , but we had no time to explore baths this time :o) In old Medina, in some of small streets , where is so easy to be lost, one day sister and me discovered cute little ethno museum with good collection of traditional clothes and were so happy as we discovered some treasure, 'cause there were no any sign for this place and was just pure luck to find something like this. Old Medina with small streets where you can smell old town was refreshment for walk around and we discovered also nice restoran on the top with beautiful view on beach decorated with colorful fishing boats and good meal. After refreshment we look around to find old souk and take a look on exotic carpets, kaftans, jewellery and so many things ... didn't buy nothing special except some traditional tunics 'cause this "sisters day" wasn't shoping tour but our relaxing day for moving around and enjoy far away from everyone we know.
