The world upside down in Teatown Lake Reservation

The days are getting shorter and shorter! Today the sun sets at 16:26 hrs (4:26 pm). That does not leave much time for a hike. Besides that I am quite busy preparing for Christmas and my upcoming home leave.
Yet, I wanted some fresh air, so, I chose to go to a nice hiking environment that is not too far away from the city: Teatown Lake Reservation. This very neat and beautiful piece of nature is located near the town of Ossining, almost directly next to the Taconic State Parkway. Yes! I have been there already, see here!
In my previous visit I hiked around the lake. This time I chose to see another section, called the Hidden Valley. An amazingly versatile hike! After crossing some marsh lands and some small hills the trail all of a sudden plunges 30 meters (98 ft) into a small canyon like valley, after crossing that valley the trail climbs back almost thrice the altitude to 86 meters (282 ft).
Along the hike are, despite the height differences, several pools. The shallow ones got a thin layer of ice, (the first natural ice I saw this season), while the deeper ones had a very undisturbed surface that neatly reflected the environment. It just looked like the world was upside down in Teatown Lake Reservation.
Despite the short hike I still had to rush in the end. The sun set just before I got back at the parking, treating me on a nice colorful sky above Teatown Lake.
