A day in New Jersey

After all the days with perfect sunny weather a rainy day was almost impossible to avoid. And according to the weather service that day would be today. Of course the day I had taken off to spend some time with my recently arrived guest. A day with pouring rain had been forecasted, so we decided to plan some inside activity and/or stay inside the car. The plan was: visiting the Edison Laboratories in West Orange NJ, drive to Sandy Hook NJ, drive around a bit in that area, have dinner, and finally watch the New York Skyline from West New York NJ.
The weather turned out not too bad after all. We experienced only a few drops of rain during our ride to West Orange. But the sky was cloudy, so still a good thing to stay inside. I had been in the Edison Laboratories earlier this year (see here) but at that time I did not have enough time to see everything, besides that, it was very crowded that day.
The next stop was Sandy Hook, the New Jersey Section of the interstate Gateway National Recreation Area, I had not been here until January last year (see here). We were still not used to the early time of sunset, by the time we were had arrived in Sandy Hook the sun already started setting. So we rushed quickly from site tot site and ended up walking on the beach while the day light quickly disappeared. The view on New York City (which lies only 11 km (8 miles) away from here), were nice.
We quickly tried to visit some historical sites nearby but they were closed or about to close and so dark that we could not see much of them. A huge dinner in a diner in Edison (this time the city) was so much food that we had to surrender and even skip dessert...
Before we crossed the George Washington Bridge back into the city we stopped at Weehawken NJ and Union City NJ to admire the New York West Side Skyline.
