Willem and Lot are visiting me. After visiting me in autumn I could finally convince them to come over in spring and summer too. Well that is what they did!

They arrived last Thursday, and for the long weekend we planned to go to Lake Placid in the Adirondacks, the most prominent mountain range in New York State.

It was Willem's birthday so instead of an early rush north we had a very relaxed breakfast on the roof terrace. The weather co-oporated fully. Nice, sunny and around 26°C. Our first stop during the journey upstate was in New Jersey at the Palisade Cliffs where we enjoyed a piece of birthday apple pie with views on the Hudson below and on birds of prey above.

Eating and moving was the theme of today. After a few hours driving we stopped to eat a pizza slice, and continued driving upstate. Since we did not want to spend the day in the car only, we selected a short (3.7-km (2.3-mile) hike near Schroon Lake to the summit of Severance Hill (474 m / 1555 ft) which offered us great views on the lake and the majestic surrounding Adirondack peaks.

That night Willem treated us on a delicious meal in the former Olympic Winter Games village. Despite the long car drive a day well spent.
